Bhartiya Culture Association of Ontario celebrated annual Diwali programme on October 17 at the Shringery Community Centre in Etobicoke. Over 110 kids participated in the programme and gave over 20 performances. President Jagdish Patel expressed his thanks to Kuvarmasi who helped every year in the preparation of the event.

Diwali Celebrated At Parliament Hill
The Canadian parliament celebrated Diwali this week with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other top leaders lighting the traditional lamps. Immigration minister Jason Kenney, finance minster Jim Flaherty, public safety minister Peter Van Loan, parliamentary secretary Deepak Obhrai, opposition leader Jack Layton and parliamentarians were among the 450 dignitaries to attend the festivities. |

A long convey of 67 cars beautifully decorated and a truck (float) carrying Lords Rama, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman and Viaisthta were seen proceeding from Erindale go-station towards the Living Arts Centre, Mississauga, the location of Diwali show, where Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion and other dignitaries, received them. A strong crowd of over 1,500 witnessed the show, hosted for the first time by Shri Ram Mandir in open area of west of Square One. The event was filled with lots of entertainment, bhajans, songs, dance concert and musical show.

| Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Deepak Obhrai, M.P. and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, light the traditional lamp at the 9th National Diwali Celebration on Parliament Hill Ottawa, on October 8th. Over 400 people from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal and a large number of MPs from all political parties and members of the diplomatic community attended the event. |
