Mercedes AMG is preparing to take electric performance into a new era with the 2027 AMG GT 4 Door Coupe, a high powered EV designed to feel less like a silent commuter car and more like a full drama performance machine. According to MotorTrend, the new model combines extreme electric output, advanced chassis technology, aggressive styling, and a digital V8 soundtrack created from real AMG engine recordings.

The biggest surprise is not just the performance, but the sound. While the car is fully electric, Mercedes AMG has created a system that uses more than 1,600 sound files to produce a convincing V8 style roar that responds to the accelerator. In AMGFORCE Sport Plus mode, the car can even simulate gear changes, giving drivers the sensation of piloting a traditional AMG performance car while using a fully electric powertrain.

The top GT63 version is expected to arrive in the U.S. in early 2027 with three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear. Together, they produce up to 1,153 horsepower and 1,475 pound feet of torque. Mercedes AMG estimates the GT63 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about 2.0 seconds and reach 124 mph in 6.4 seconds. With the optional Driver’s package, top speed is listed at 186 mph.

A lower output GT55 version is expected to go on sale in late 2026. It still delivers a massive 805 horsepower and 1,328 pound feet of torque, with a zero to 60 mph time estimated at 2.4 seconds. Both versions use a 106 kWh net battery, an 800 volt electrical system, and an all wheel drive layout. Mercedes AMG also says the architecture has been designed to handle more than 1,350 horsepower, suggesting even more extreme versions could arrive later.

Charging performance is another major part of the story. The battery was developed in house by AMG and uses advanced liquid cooling to support both repeated performance driving and very high charging speeds. On future ultra fast chargers, the car could accept more than 600 kW and charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 11 minutes. Mercedes AMG expects European WLTP range to fall between 370 and 430 miles, which could translate to an estimated EPA range of roughly 315 to 365 miles.

The chassis is packed with technology meant to make the car feel more agile than its size suggests. Standard equipment includes AMG Active Ride Control suspension with air springs, hydraulic roll control, and rear wheel steering. At lower speeds, the rear wheels can turn opposite the front wheels to improve agility. At higher speeds, they turn in the same direction to increase stability.

Mercedes AMG also gives the electric GT 4 Door Coupe serious braking and energy recovery capability. The car can slow down at up to 0.68 g using regenerative braking alone, sending as much as 550 kW back into the battery. To balance weight and feel, AMG uses carbon ceramic rotors at the front and steel brakes at the rear. Engineers say the goal is to keep the brake pedal feeling natural whether the car is using regeneration, physical brakes, or both.

The design is much more aggressive than earlier Mercedes electric models. The new GT 4 Door Coupe is longer, wider, and lower than the combustion version, with a stretched wheelbase and a dramatic roofline that gives it a low super sedan profile. The front end features an illuminated AMG style grille area, sharp headlights with star shaped daytime running lights, and an optional glass light bar. At the rear, a wide black panel, thin light bar, star motif taillights, and complex diffuser give it a futuristic performance look.

Aerodynamics play a major role in the car’s efficiency and speed. Despite its muscular body, Mercedes AMG says the car can achieve a drag coefficient as low as 0.22. Active aero elements include a rear spoiler, an extending rear diffuser, front cooling louvers, height adjusting air suspension, and underbody elements that deploy at speed to create downforce using a race car inspired venturi effect.

Inside, the cabin takes Mercedes screen technology even further. A 10.2 inch digital instrument display and 14.0 inch central touchscreen sit under one curved glass surface, while the front passenger can get a separate 14.0 inch screen across the dashboard. A panoramic roof with adjustable transparency is standard, while optional AMG Performance seats, special lighting, and roof graphics add to the futuristic cabin atmosphere.

Drivers will also get a deep level of control through Mercedes AMG’s latest software and hardware systems. The car offers seven drive modes, including Comfort, Sport, AMGFORCE Sport Plus, Race, Slippery, Individual, and Eco. Additional controls allow the driver to adjust motor response, torque distribution, and traction control through multiple settings. The system also includes AMG apps that display live powertrain data, aero status, battery information, tire warmup, and track timing.

For track focused drivers, the AMG Track Pace app can record more than 80 vehicle data points 10 times per second. It can show lap times, sector times, acceleration data, telemetry, racing lines, and braking points on the driver display, multimedia screen, or head up display. Famous circuits such as the Nürburgring and Spa Francorchamps will have data built in from the factory.
