Niagara Police Link Massive Vehicle Seizure to Ontario Crime Network
Police have recovered 43 stolen vehicles valued at approximately $3.8 million at a British Columbia port, in what investigators describe as a significant breakthrough in an ongoing organized crime probe tied to Ontario.
Niagara Regional Police Service announced the development as part of Project Road King, a multi year investigation targeting alleged auto theft and drug trafficking operations. Authorities believe the vehicles were destined for international shipment before being intercepted.
The joint operation involves support from Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada Border Services Agency, and municipal police services in Hamilton and Brantford.
Project Road King: Over 200 Charges Laid Since 2024
Project Road King began in 2024 and has already resulted in more than 200 charges against 30 individuals. Investigators say the case has required extensive forensic examination of electronic devices and seized materials, leading to the discovery of the stolen vehicles at the western port.
Police allege the criminal organization operated across multiple jurisdictions and was involved in coordinated property crimes and narcotics trafficking.
Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the latest seizure. Keir McColl, 39, of Ancaster; Tudor Sopterian, 32, of Hamilton; and Dejan Zlojo, 43, of Etobicoke face multiple charges, including conspiracy to traffic property obtained by crime over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit theft over $5,000.
McColl and Sopterian are also charged with conspiracy to intimidate by threats of violence, unlawfully producing fentanyl and failing to comply with a release order. All three remain in custody following bail hearings.
An arrest warrant has been issued for 58 year old Burlington resident Nikola Scepanovic in connection with the investigation.
Drug Seizures and Firearms Recovered in Earlier Raids
The investigation traces back to August 2024, when Niagara police received information from Kingston police regarding a suspected large scale drug delivery operation.
Authorities identified Curtis Gravelle of Welland as a key figure in what they allege was an extensive trafficking network. Arrests throughout spring 2025 led to significant seizures of narcotics, weapons, vehicles and cash.
On September 9, investigators seized more than 12 kilograms of suspected cocaine, one kilogram of suspected methamphetamine, 1.5 kilograms of MDMA and 38 stolen vehicles valued at more than $3.3 million. Police also recovered at least 17 long guns, three handguns and over half a million dollars in Canadian currency.
Coordinated Intelligence Led Policing
Police officials say the seizure of the 43 vehicles in British Columbia underscores the national scope of the investigation and the importance of interagency collaboration.
Niagara Regional Police Chief Bill Fordy stated that the project demonstrates the impact of coordinated intelligence led enforcement strategies. While the initial takedown significantly disrupted the alleged criminal network, investigators confirm the case remains active and additional charges are expected.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the investigation to contact Niagara Regional Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
Project Road King continues to unfold as law enforcement agencies work to dismantle what they describe as a complex and far reaching organized crime operation spanning Ontario and beyond.
