A large emergency response unfolded in Toronto’s Etobicoke area early Wednesday morning after a significant fire broke out at a waste removal facility, prompting officials to deploy approximately 80 firefighters to control the situation.

Crews from Toronto Fire Services were called shortly after 5 a.m. to a three-alarm blaze at a site located at 90 Shorncliffe Road. Firefighters arrived to find a large garbage pit burning inside the facility, creating heavy smoke and requiring an extensive coordinated response.

Emergency crews also reported that an excavator inside the building had caught fire during the incident. Authorities indicated that the structure may have sustained damage as a result of the flames, although the full extent of the impact was still being assessed following the response.

Multiple aerial ladder units were brought in to help contain and extinguish the fire due to the scale and complexity of the blaze. Despite the intensity of the incident and the number of personnel involved, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Fire investigators are expected to review the circumstances surrounding the incident as crews continue to monitor the site and assess structural conditions at the facility.
