Aamir Khan has opened up about his radically different role in Sitaare Zameen Par, describing his character as “very rude, politically incorrect, and insulting to everyone.” Speaking at the Macau Comedy Festival during a recent visit to China, Khan gave fans an inside look at the film, which is an Indian adaptation of the acclaimed Spanish film Champions.

Khan revealed that the film is nearing completion and carries forward the emotional spirit of Taare Zameen Par, but with a comedic twist. “It’s the sequel to Taare Zameen Par thematically, but it goes ten steps ahead. It’s about love, friendship, and life — with a lot of laughter this time. While Taare Zameen Par made you cry, Sitaare Zameen Par will make you laugh,” he said.

Describing his new role, Aamir shared that his character Gulshan is a far cry from the sensitive teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh he portrayed in the earlier film. “This guy is a hot mess. He’s rude, politically incorrect, and doesn’t hesitate to insult people — his wife, his mother, even his senior coach. He’s a basketball coach with deep internal issues and a lot of anger,” Aamir said.

The storyline revolves around his transformation after being assigned to coach a basketball team comprising individuals with disabilities such as Down syndrome and autism. “These ten individuals end up teaching him what it really means to be human,” Khan explained.

Directed by an as-yet-unnamed filmmaker, Sitaare Zameen Par aims to blend humor and heart while offering a strong message about inclusivity, empathy, and personal growth. The film is expected to release later this year.
