Abhishek Bachchan says he has always viewed his father, Amitabh Bachchan, not just as a parent but as the greatest actor of all time. Speaking at the IFP creative festival at Mehboob Studios, the actor opened up about why he would never consider recreating any of Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic films.
Abhishek said he spent much of his childhood watching his father’s movies repeatedly, calling himself Amitabh Bachchan’s “biggest fan.” He recalled that as a child, he and his friends would re-enact his father’s films in the backyard, with everyone wanting to play Amitabh’s role. That early admiration, he said, makes it impossible for him to imagine stepping into those characters today.
He explained that he watches Amitabh Bachchan’s performances with a sense of awe, never wondering how he would have played the same role. For Abhishek, that is the mark of unparalleled greatness. He added that while actors often believe they could interpret a role differently or even improve on it, he feels no one could do those films better than Amitabh Bachchan, making any attempt at recreation unnecessary.
Abhishek’s most recent release, Housefull 5, hit theatres in June. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, the film also stars Akshay Kumar, Sonam Bajwa and Jacqueline Fernandez, marking the fifth chapter in the popular comedy franchise.
