Canadian golfer Adam Svensson delivered a sensational opening round at the 3M Open on Thursday, carding a flawless 60 at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. The 31-year-old surged to a two-shot clubhouse lead with one of the most dominant performances of his PGA Tour career.
Svensson wasted no time setting the tone, beginning his round with a birdie on the par-4 first hole. He kept the momentum rolling with four more birdies on the front nine, including holes four, six, seven, and nine, finishing the turn at five-under.
The back nine was even more impressive. Svensson birdied 10, 11, and 12 in quick succession, then added another on 16. He closed the round with an exclamation point, sinking an eagle putt on the par-5 18th to cap a bogey-free, 11-under-par round that broke the course record.
Calling it the “best putting round I’ve ever had,” Svensson now finds himself in a critical position with only two events left before the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He began the week ranked 170th in the FedEx Cup standings, far outside the top 70 needed to qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August. A win this week would catapult him to 69th, keeping his playoff hopes alive.
This performance marks Svensson’s strongest round since his lone PGA Tour win at the RSM Classic in November 2022. With the pressure mounting late in the season, his remarkable start at the 3M Open could not have come at a better time.
