Reports suggest that Apple is continuing development of its long anticipated foldable smartphone, widely referred to as the iPhone Fold, with a possible launch targeted for September 2026 alongside the next generation of flagship devices. According to reporting by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the device could carry a starting price above $2,000, placing it well above the company’s current premium smartphone lineup.
For comparison, Apple’s current flagship model, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, begins at ap proximately $1,199 for the 256GB storage version, with higher capacity options reaching up to $1,999. If pricing expectations for the foldable model prove accurate, the iPhone Fold would become one of the most expensive smartphones Apple has released to date and position itself firmly in the ultra premium category.
While Apple has not officially confirmed the device or its specifications, industry expectations suggest the foldable model could follow pricing trends already seen in competing devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. That model starts near the $2,000 range for its base storage configuration and rises significantly with higher capacity variants. Analysts believe Apple could adopt a similar pricing structure depending on storage options and display technology.
Gurman has indicated that although a price above $2,000 may limit adoption among mainstream buyers, the device is expected to appeal to early adopters and premium segment customers. A higher priced foldable model could also increase Apple’s overall average selling price across its iPhone lineup, supporting revenue growth within its hardware business.
There remains some uncertainty about timing, however. While Bloomberg sources suggest the foldable iPhone remains on track for a September 2026 debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series, a separate report from Nikkei Asia has suggested technical challenges could delay the launch until 2027. Until Apple formally announces the device, details about branding, specifications, and final pricing remain subject to change.
