The popular Audi Q5 is facing a major price hike in the U.S., with the base model jumping nearly $7,000 due to newly imposed tariffs on imported vehicles. As the first high-profile example of the 25-percent tariff’s impact, the price of the Q5 has climbed from $46,695 to $53,495 USD.

Manufactured in Mexico and exported to the U.S., the new-generation Q5 had already been available in European markets and was set to debut stateside. However, with the tariff now in effect, Audi has revealed updated pricing that significantly alters the vehicle’s competitive standing.

The sportier SQ5 versions aren’t spared either. The standard SQ5 sees a $6,400 increase, while the SQ5 Sportback is up by $5,800. Given that the Q5 is Audi’s best-selling model in the U.S., the price shift poses serious challenges for the German automaker.

Speaking to Bloomberg, an industry consultant warned that the Q5 may soon become “unsellable” at these new price points. Audi, however, told Automotive News it remains committed to the U.S. market and will continue efforts to make the Q5 appealing to American buyers.

In an internal memo to dealers, Audi disclosed plans to keep vehicles assembled in Mexico and other countries at U.S. ports for models arriving after April 2. It remains unclear whether this policy will be reversed or extended in the near future.
