Authentic Sri Lankan Dhal Curry Recipe
- Ingredients:
- 1 cup red lentils (masoor dhal), washed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece ginger, minced
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cloves
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Instructions:
- Cook lentils in water until soft, then mash lightly.
- In a separate pan, heat oil and add onions, garlic, ginger, and curry leaves. Sauté until onions are translucent.
- Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
- Add turmeric powder, chili powder, curry powder, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom. Cook for a minute.
- Add mashed lentils, salt, and enough water to achieve the desired consistency. Simmer for a few minutes.
- Adjust seasoning if needed and serve hot with rice or bread.
