Bell Canada has confirmed that internet services have been fully restored following a widespread outage that affected more than 130,000 users across Quebec and Ontario early Wednesday morning.

The disruption, which began around 9:30 a.m. EDT, left thousands of customers struggling to access landline and mobile internet services. According to Downdetector, 61 percent of the reported issues were related to landline internet, 11 percent involved mobile internet, and 28 percent were classified as complete service blackouts.

Bell attributed the cause of the outage to a routine system update that unintentionally impacted several of their routers. In response, the company says it quickly rolled back the update to restore service.

“We would like to apologize for the disruption our customers experienced earlier today due to an internet outage. We can confirm that services have been fully restored,” Bell said in an official statement.

The telecom giant emphasized that the incident was not the result of a cyberattack and assured customers that their network teams are reviewing the issue thoroughly to prevent future occurrences. Customers still experiencing difficulties are being advised to reboot their modems by unplugging them for a few minutes before reconnecting.
