A Lotto Max ticket sold in Brampton has won the massive $70 million jackpot from the May 8 draw, making one Ontario player the province’s newest multimillionaire just ahead of Mother’s Day.

According to OLG, the winning ticket was purchased somewhere in Brampton, and lottery officials are urging players in the city to carefully check their numbers. The timing of the win led officials to describe the jackpot as a potential great Mother’s Day gift.

The $70 million prize was not the only major Lotto Max win connected to Ontario. OLG confirmed that a Maxmillions ticket worth $333,333.40 was sold in Milton, with that prize being shared with two other winning tickets sold in Quebec and Western Canada.

Several Maxplus prizes were also won across Ontario. Five tickets worth $100,000 each were sold in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, Simcoe County and Kitchener. Two additional Maxplus tickets worth $33,333.40 were sold in the Parry Sound and Nipissing area, as well as Stoney Creek, as part of a shared prize.

OLG also reported that three Encore tickets worth $100,000 each were sold in Lucan, the Kawartha Lakes region and Toronto. The latest results add to a long history of major Lotto Max wins in Ontario.

Since Lotto Max launched in 2009, Ontario players have won more than $9.9 billion through the game, including 122 jackpot wins and more than 1,000 Maxmillions prizes. For now, all eyes are on Brampton as the search begins for the lucky ticket holder who may be holding a life changing $70 million prize.
