Region of Peel – Officers from the Road Safety Services and 22 Division have arrested and laid charges against two men for numerous firearm-related offences.
On August 11th, 2022, at approximately 7:58 p.m., police observed two motorcycles with no license plate travelling at a high rate of speed in the area of Veterans Drive and Sandalwood Parkway in Brampton. Police conducted a traffic stop on both drivers in the parking lot of 200 Veterans Drive in Brampton.
Further investigation revealed that 25-year-old Romario Sampath of Brampton was in possession of a loaded Smith and Wesson M&P 9 Shield 9mm calibre handgun. Sampath was arrested and charged with the following offences
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Or Restricted Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon,
- Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Race a Motor Vehicle
- Drive Motor Vehicle, No Plates
26-Year-old man from Mississauga was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Race a motor vehicle
- Driving under licence of other jurisdiction while suspended in Ontario
The man was given a Summons and released at the scene with a future court date.
