On Sunday, September 18th, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, Sonia Sidhu, and her office team hosted approximately 1500 attendees from her riding for a community BBQ in Brampton Garden Square – the central downtown hub in Brampton – often packed with people watching sports, movies or taking in the summer weather.
“I wanted to take this chance to thank my constituents for their warmth in welcoming me to their events and gatherings over the past 11 months,” said MP Sidhu. “What better way than to invite them to an event of ours? As Parliament returns, I wanted an opportunity to hear what Brampton South wants to see me do and speak up about in the months to come.”
The event featured special guests from all levels of government, including Mayor Linda Jeffrey, MPP Harinder Malhi, Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans, Chair of the Peel Police Services Board Amrik
Singh Ahluwalia, Councillor Jeff Bowman, Councillor Gurpreet Dhillon, MP Ruby Sahota, MP Raj Grewal, MP Sven Spengemann, MP Paul Lefebvre, MP Iqra Khalid, and many other community leaders. The afternoon was jam-packed with great music, food (burgers, veggie burgers, halal, hot-dogs, cake), activities for children (face painting), balloons, and a personal meet-and-greet with MP Sidhu. The event was promoted to constituents on the front page of MP Sidhu’s mail-out that went to every household in the riding.
The Canadian Diabetes Association also held a booth at the event that collected canned goods and used clothing from constituents to benefit those in need.
MP Sidhu highlighted a number of achievements by her and her Constituency office over the past year, including:
The creation of 174 jobs for Youth in Brampton South through the Canada Summer Jobs Program

MP Sidhu also reminded guests to attend her regular information sessions, where residents can voice their concerns about the issues impacting their everyday lives. Noting the many accomplishments over the past months, MP Sidhu acknowledged that there is always more work to do and encouraged attendees to be a part of the change by sharing their ideas on how she can work with her colleagues to create a better Canada.
“I am so proud of the work that we, as a community, have been able to accomplish together in these short months. I look forward to continuing to serve as MP for Brampton South for as long as I can,” added MP Sidhu. “Thank you to all those who came out to my barbecue, and we’ll see you again next year!”
