Cash Money Records has long been recognized as one of hip-hop’s most dominant labels, and now Birdman, the label’s co-founder, is putting a staggering figure on its success. In a recent interview with Nick Cannon on the Cannon’s Class podcast, Birdman revealed that Cash Money earned more than $2 billion thanks to the combined success of Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Toronto’s own Drake.

“Two billion dollars between Drake, Nicki, and Wayne,” Birdman said. “Two-plus billion dollars. Hundreds of millions of dollars, guaranteed.”

For Canadian superstar Drake, his meteoric rise under the Cash Money umbrella turned him into one of the best-selling artists of all time, and a key driver behind the label’s financial success. Drake’s string of multi-platinum albums during his time with Cash Money propelled him to international fame and played a crucial role in making the label a powerhouse throughout the 2010s.

Birdman had previously claimed during a 2021 interview on the Big Facts Podcast that after a massive deal with Universal Records, he personally distributed around $500 million to Drake alone, acknowledging the immense revenue the artist brought in. “When Universal gave me a bag, brother, I could honestly say… Drake got about $500 million out of my pocket,” Birdman said. “No cap. If you don’t believe them, ask ’em.”

Drake’s track record with Cash Money speaks for itself. From 2010’s Thank Me Later to 2018’s Scorpion, Drake consistently delivered multi-platinum albums, each helping to solidify his status as Canada’s biggest musical export. His 2010 debut Thank Me Later went 4x platinum, 2011’s Take Care achieved 4x platinum status, 2013’s Nothing Was the Same went 6x platinum, 2015’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late reached 4x platinum, 2016’s Views soared to 8x platinum, and 2018’s Scorpion earned an incredible 7x platinum certification.

Between Drake’s solo projects and collaborations, his impact extended beyond sales, reshaping the sound and global reach of hip-hop, and putting Toronto firmly on the world’s music map.

Though Drake parted ways with Cash Money in 2018, his legacy with the label remains undeniable. Alongside Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, Drake helped usher in an era of unprecedented success for Cash Money, blending Canadian artistry with global commercial dominance.

Birdman’s latest remarks only reaffirm the massive influence Drake had during his Cash Money years—not just as an artist, but as a driving force behind one of the most successful business runs in hip-hop history.
