After rising to fame with a record-breaking century just days ago, Rajasthan Royals’ 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi was brought back down to earth in Thursday’s IPL clash against Mumbai Indians, falling for a two-ball duck. The man who took his prized wicket, MI pacer Deepak Chahar, shared insight into the calculated strategy that led to the early dismissal, while also praising the youngster’s immense potential.
Despite a below-par season personally, Chahar delivered a sharp opening spell, claiming the key wicket of Suryavanshi during the powerplay. His pace partner, Trent Boult, compounded RR’s early troubles by sending Yashasvi Jaiswal back to the pavilion shortly after.
In the post-match press conference, Chahar described how his team approached Suryavanshi like any other opponent. “We analyze every batter. Each player has strengths and weaknesses, and Vaibhav is no exception,” Chahar explained. “We made a plan, and today it worked. Sometimes it doesn’t, but this time we were fortunate. He’s clearly a talented kid and has a bright future ahead of him.”
Chahar bowled just two overs in the match, conceding 13 runs and picking up the lone wicket of the teenage prodigy. His disciplined bowling gave Mumbai early momentum in a match that reflected their renewed emphasis on fundamentals.
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya echoed that sentiment, crediting their return to “simple cricket” for recent success. “It’s about real batsmanship—finding the gaps, running hard, and staying disciplined,” Pandya said. “With our experienced bowling unit and a clear mindset, we’re focusing on humility and consistency.”
While Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s dream run was momentarily halted, the match showcased how strategic planning and fundamental cricket can still outsmart even the brightest emerging stars in the IPL.
