DATE ANNOUNCED FOR THE INQUEST INTO THE DEATH OF COLIN PYNE

Ministry of the Solicitor GeneralDr. Kenneth Peckham, Regional Supervising Coroner, West Region, Central Office,
announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of
Colin Pyne. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026. Murray
Segal will be the presiding officer and Grace Alcaide Janicas will be the
inquest counsel.

Mr. Pyne, 26 years old, died on August 17, 2021, while in custody at the Central
North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene. An inquest into his death is
mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Pyne’s death. The
jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last eight days and hear from approximately 16
witnesses.
