The security arrangements in the national capital were extremely tight on Republic Day, especially around the majestic Rajpath.
A senior police official said, “On such occasions (Republic Day), Delhi Police raises its alert level. Officers increase visibility and presence in order to respond to possible threats.”
At present, 27,723 officers and policemen, including 71 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), 213 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 713 Inspectors, officers and jawans from Delhi Police Commandos, and 65 companies of the Central Armed Police Force, are on duty in the city.
Recently, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana had said that for the past two months, the police have been taking intensified anti-terror measures in the national capital.
Throughout the years, Delhi has been a target for anti-social elements. This year, too, we are on high alert. In coordination with other security agencies, we have intensified anti-terrorism measures in Delhi.
In speaking to , the deputy commissioner of police for New Delhi district, Deepak Yadav, said the Republic Day will be celebrated on the Rajpath with adequate arrangements.
To counter any attack beforehand, approximately 300 cameras equipped with face-recognition have been installed along the Rajpath,” Yadav said.
Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed specially trained commandos to deal with threats, according to the DCP.
“Apart from the police commandos, assault teams of SWAT, Special Cell and Hit teams of NSG are also in place,” Yadav added.
