Rapper Drake shared a video of murky water flooding his Toronto mansion as heavy rain inundated parts of Canada on Tuesday, knocking out power to thousands of customers.
The “One Dance” singer posted an Instagram story showing a vanity room and closet filled with muddy water. As he walked through the hall, sloshing through ankle-deep water, he jokingly captioned the clip: “This better be Espresso Martini.”
Severe thunderstorms hit Toronto on Tuesday, dropping nearly 4 inches of rain in some areas and leaving 167,000 customers without power at the peak of the storm. The city, home to 3 million people, faced road closures and over 700 calls about basement flooding.
Toronto Pearson International Airport reported that Tuesday was the fifth-wettest day ever recorded at the airport, with 3.8 inches of rain, setting a daily rainfall record.
First responders were inundated with nearly 1,700 calls for service and attended nearly 500 incidents, including elevator rescues and water rescues from cars and buildings. Environment & Climate Change Canada reported that while no significant rain was forecast for Wednesday, flooding continued in low-lying waterfront parks and on Toronto Island. About 3,200 customers remained without power as crews worked to reopen roads.
Drake’s home, known as “The Embassy,” was designed by Canadian architectural and interior designer Ferris Rafauli. The 50,000-square-foot mansion features an NBA-size indoor basketball court, a recording studio, an awards room, an indoor swimming pool, modern art deco interiors, and a chandelier with over 20,000 pieces of Swarovski crystal.
Reflecting on his home, Drake told Architectural Digest, “Because I was building it in my hometown, I wanted the structure to stand firm for 100 years. I wanted it to have a monumental scale and feel. It will be one of the things I leave behind, so it had to be timeless and strong.”
