In response to a question about privatization, Jones said “all options are on the table.”
“I’m saying that there is innovation and opportunities here in Ontario, and we will explore those,” she said
In a number of hospitals across the province, emergency rooms have had to close for hours or days at a time in the past few months due to a nursing shortage. Some small rural hospitals have been hit harder than larger urban hospitals because of the shortage.
“We’ve always had a public health-care system in the province of Ontario and we will continue to,” she said.
During the first Question Period since the Progressive Conservatives were re-elected in June, Jones and Ford were bombarded with questions about the ongoing crisis in hospitals as they attended the first session since the party’s re-election.
In both cases, the government didn’t call it a crisis, but rather said it is investing in the health-care system in order to improve it.
