Genesis is offering a surprising antidote to SUV fatigue with its striking G90 Wingback concept, a design study that suggests the luxury brand is ready to challenge market norms. Revealed alongside the GV60 Magma and the Magma GT performance prototype, the Wingback immediately drew attention for reviving a body style rarely pursued by today’s automakers. Weeks after its debut, Genesis has released official details and images, giving a clearer look at what could become one of the most distinctive vehicles in its lineup.

Built on the same platform as the G90 sedan, the Wingback transforms the flagship into a long-roof performance wagon. The concept features an extended roofline, wider fenders, a more assertive grille, and functional aerodynamic elements including dive planes, dual rear spoilers and a rear diffuser. Even the 22-inch wheels are bespoke, emphasizing a design that fully departs from the sleek but conservative look of the standard G90.

Genesis has also unveiled the Wingback’s interior, which remains familiar in layout but adopts exclusive materials. The cabin uses quilted Chamude, a suede-like fabric, complemented by deep green stitching that reflects the exterior finish. Magma program embroidery on the seat bolsters adds a performance-oriented touch, reinforcing that the Wingback is not merely a styling exercise but a conceptual blend of luxury and sport.

Although Genesis has not officially committed to production, the language surrounding the concept appears more optimistic than usual. The brand notes that the Wingback demonstrates its intention to expand the Magma performance program across a wider range of vehicle types. When the model was first shown in November, executives acknowledged that production was “under consideration,” suggesting real momentum behind the idea of a bespoke, limited-run performance wagon.

Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke has emphasized the need for fresh design alternatives in a market oversaturated with SUVs. He warned that the industry’s reliance on crossovers is creating “saturation,” making unique body styles newly appealing. For Genesis, still carving out its identity among long-established luxury brands, a bold wagon like the Wingback could attract buyers seeking exclusivity and craftsmanship that stand apart from mainstream trends.

If the G90 Wingback ultimately reaches showrooms, it is expected to be produced in limited numbers and serve as a bridge between the Magma performance division and the brand’s fully bespoke One-of-One program. For now, the concept signals Genesis’s willingness to rethink luxury, revive forgotten form factors and position itself as a creative disruptor in the premium market.
