Peel Regional Police are investigating after gunfire struck two homes and several vehicles in a quiet residential neighbourhood in northwest Brampton early Monday morning. Authorities say the shooting occurred on Spadina Road near Royal Orchard Drive, an area located south of Bovaird Drive West and east of McLaughlin Road North. Officers responded to reports of gunshots around 2:40 a.m. and began securing the scene while investigators gathered evidence.
According to Constable Mandeep Khatra of Peel Regional Police, the suspect or suspects arrived in a vehicle and opened fire toward two houses and three parked vehicles before fleeing the area shortly afterward. Speaking during a media briefing at the scene, Khatra explained that investigators believe the gunfire occurred sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 2:40 a.m. in what is considered a densely populated residential neighbourhood.
Police say the number of shots fired appears to be in the double digits. Despite the significant amount of gunfire, no injuries were reported. Investigators have not yet released a description of the suspect or suspects, though they believe the individuals left the scene in a light coloured four door sedan that may have been a Honda Civic.
Local resident Robert Thomas, 54, said he was awakened by the sound of gunshots and later discovered bullet holes in both his car and the garage door of his home. Thomas told reporters that he suspects someone may have been attempting to flee from shooters or hide nearby, which could explain why bullets struck his property.
Thomas, who has lived in the neighbourhood since 2020 and previously worked as a police officer in Jamaica, said he personally was not frightened by the incident because gun violence is more common where he previously lived. However, he noted that the shooting has deeply affected his family, explaining that his wife was extremely upset by the event.
Constable Khatra said officers are continuing to canvass the neighbourhood for surveillance footage and witnesses who may have seen suspicious activity before or after the shooting. Investigators are working to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the incident.
Police emphasized that the type of violence witnessed in the community will not be tolerated. Officials described the shooting as brazen and unacceptable, noting that gunfire in residential streets poses a serious risk to public safety. Authorities are urging anyone with information or video footage from the area to contact Peel Regional Police’s 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau or Crime Stoppers anonymously as the investigation continues.
