Cricket Canada has been officially advised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) of its decision to suspend Canada’s U19 cricketer Raqib Shamsudeen from bowling in international cricket after his bowling action was confirmed to be illegal.
Shamsudeen’s action was reported to the ICC’s U19 Cricket World Cup Event Panel by match officials during Canada’s January 22 match against South Africa at the 2020 U10 World Cup. Video footage of Shamsudeen bowling in the match was shared with the Event Panel for review. The U19 World Cup Event Panel, the composition of which includes the ICC Human Movement Specialists, subsequently confirmed Shamsudeen’s use of an illegal action.
The 18 year old Raqib, will remain under suspension until such time his action is found to be legal through an independent assessment of his bowling action. He will undergo remedial work supervised by Cricket Canada who have sought the assistance of an independent specialist to help with his rehabilitation. Upon modifying his bowing action, Cricket Canada will apply for reassessment in accordance with ICC regulations.
