It was a dark Tuesday evening for the police community. Last night, two police officers were killed after exchanging gunfire with a suspect inside an Innisfil residence.
Two South Simcoe Police Service officers were responding to a disturbance report at a home near 25th Sideroad and 9th Line around 8 p.m., according to authorities.
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), a 23-year-old male and two cops exchanged gunfire.
The suspect was declared deceased at the scene, according to the SIU. One of the cops was taken to a hospital in Barrie by emergency run. He passed away in the hospital, according to the police authorities. The second officer was airlifted to a Toronto trauma center in serious condition and passed away as a result of his injuries, police said in a statement Wednesday morning.
The attack comes a month after a shooter went on a shooting rampage in the GTA, killing Toronto Police Const. Andrew Hong and two people on Sept. 12.
