The Indian Premier League 2025 is set to resume under an intensified schedule, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) eyeing May 30 as the new date for the final. After a week-long suspension prompted by escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the BCCI has informed franchises of its intention to complete the tournament through a packed lineup of double-headers, utilizing only three venues—Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

Franchises were instructed to have their teams, including returning overseas players and support staff, report to the designated cities by Tuesday. This urgency stems from the tight window the BCCI faces, as 12 matches remain alongside the playoffs, requiring at least 14 days to complete the event. The condensed format will see more back-to-back games than originally scheduled, reflecting the league’s determination to conclude by the revised deadline.

While most foreign players had returned home following the abrupt suspension, franchises have now been asked to swiftly coordinate their travel back to India. Punjab Kings remains the only exception, with the rest of the teams expected to be in place for a Friday restart.

The decision to push forward comes on the heels of the recently announced ceasefire between India and Pakistan, a development that IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal acknowledged as pivotal in reassessing the tournament’s immediate future. Speaking to The Indian Express, Dhumal confirmed that discussions with stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and government officials, are underway to finalize the logistics, with venue confirmations pending government consultation.

The abrupt halt to the IPL occurred after security concerns surfaced, including an incident during the Delhi Capitals vs. Punjab Kings match in Dharamsala, where floodlight failures compounded safety fears amid the border unrest. The league’s administrators remain cautious but optimistic about resuming play in a controlled environment focused on player safety and operational efficiency.

As fans await the updated schedule, the BCCI is expected to release the revised fixtures by Sunday night, aiming to restore momentum to the world’s premier T20 league under a compressed and high-stakes timeline.
