Tensions ran high during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 clash against Punjab Kings, as an irate Virat Kohli was seen shouting at RCB skipper Rajat Patidar following a communication error that nearly resulted in a costly run-out. The dramatic moment occurred in the 16th over of RCB’s run chase at the new PCA Stadium in Mullanpur, but fortunately for the visitors, the miscommunication didn’t derail their dominant performance.

The incident unfolded when Kohli nudged a delivery from Arshdeep Singh into the leg side and took off for a quick double. Patidar, however, was hesitant after completing the first run and failed to respond to Kohli’s call for a second. As Kohli had already committed to the second run, Patidar found himself stranded mid-pitch. A poor throw from PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer bailed him out, saving RCB from what could have been a momentum-breaking dismissal. Patidar’s reprieve was short-lived, though, as he was dismissed in the following over.

Despite the brief flare-up, RCB remained unfazed. Kohli, as composed as ever with the bat, stayed unbeaten on 73 off 54 balls, anchoring the chase to perfection. He was ably supported by Devdutt Padikkal, who blazed his way to 61 off just 35 deliveries. The pair’s 103-run stand ensured a smooth seven-wicket victory for Bengaluru with seven balls to spare.

Earlier, RCB’s spinners played a vital role in restricting Punjab Kings to 157/6. Krunal Pandya (2/25) and Suyash Sharma (2/26) choked PBKS in the middle overs, never allowing their innings to gain any real momentum. Prabhsimran Singh’s 33 off 17 was the only notable knock in an otherwise underwhelming batting effort.

Adding to the milestone-rich evening, Kohli also etched his name deeper into IPL history by surpassing David Warner for the most 50+ scores in the league. Kohli now has 67 such innings, overtaking Warner’s tally of 66. Warner, notably, led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL title in 2016.

With this win, RCB secured their fifth victory and climbed to 10 points, solidifying their spot among the top four and reigniting their campaign with renewed momentum.
