As the IPL 2025 season nears its conclusion, the high-stakes clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) could be at the mercy of Mumbai’s unpredictable weather. With both teams vying for the final playoff spot, a washout would drastically impact Delhi’s chances of making the top four.
Currently, MI sits one point ahead of DC in the standings. If rain prevents the match from being played, both teams would be awarded one point each, pushing MI to 15 points and DC to 14. This minor shift could have major consequences. Mumbai would then control their own destiny in their final league match, while Delhi’s playoff hopes would become dependent on other results.
A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai, with forecasts predicting an 80% chance of rain on match day and at least 1.5 hours of precipitation. Though chances of rain dip slightly in the evening, the possibility of a washout remains high, leaving fans and team management on edge.
Should the match be washed out, Delhi’s path to the playoffs becomes treacherously narrow. They would not only need to beat the already-qualified Punjab Kings in their final game, but also hope that MI loses their own clash against Punjab. If MI wins that game, DC would be knocked out regardless of their own result.
For Delhi Capitals, the best-case scenario remains clear: a win against MI, whether in a full or shortened contest. With so much riding on this fixture, even the clouds seem to be joining the playoff battle.
