Gujarat Titans’ director of cricket, Vikram Solanki, has heaped praise on skipper Shubman Gill and pace ace Mohammed Siraj for their strong performances in IPL 2025. Speaking ahead of GT’s fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders, Solanki highlighted Gill’s growing leadership and Siraj’s tireless work ethic as key factors behind the franchise’s turnaround this season.
Gujarat Titans, champions in their debut season in 2022, endured a tough 2024 campaign under newly appointed captain Gill, finishing eighth with just five wins in 14 games. However, in IPL 2025, they’ve already matched that win tally in only seven matches, showing signs of renewed purpose and structure under Gill’s evolving captaincy.
Solanki acknowledged that while Gill is still developing as a leader, he has impressed with his ability to build strong connections with the bowling unit. “He’s grown into the role from one game to the next. He’s developing his captaincy style, and it’s great to watch,” said Solanki, noting that the support from an experienced bowling lineup has also been a key asset.
Among those bowlers, Mohammed Siraj has stood out. With 11 wickets in seven games, he’s currently GT’s joint-highest wicket-taker. After being dropped from India’s Champions Trophy-winning squad earlier this year, Siraj has returned to the IPL with renewed fire, becoming a central figure in Gujarat’s pace attack.
Solanki credited both Siraj’s resilience and the mentorship of head coach Ashish Nehra for his resurgence. “There’s a great connection there, but we can’t overlook the hard work Siraj has put in. He’s clearly had something to prove, and he’s channelled that energy in the right direction,” he said.
Praising Siraj’s mindset, Solanki added, “He’s worked hard, reflected on what he wants to achieve, and has a top-class coach guiding him. Long may that connection continue, and long may Siraj continue to thrive.”
With a solid foundation in place and key players finding form, Gujarat Titans look well-poised to reclaim their place among the league’s elite as the race to the playoffs heats up.
