Royal Challengers Bengaluru will attempt to capture their second consecutive Indian Premier League title when they face Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31. The highly anticipated contest begins at 7:30 p.m. IST and brings together the two strongest teams from this season.

RCB return to the same venue where they won their first IPL trophy in 2025 after defeating Punjab Kings in the final. After waiting 18 years to become champions, Bengaluru now have an opportunity to join Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians as one of the teams to win consecutive IPL titles.

According to The Federal, RCB enter the final as the favourites after finishing at the top of the league table and defeating Gujarat Titans by 92 runs in Qualifier 1. Both teams finished the regular season with 18 points, but Bengaluru claimed first place because of a stronger Net Run Rate.

RCB have built their campaign around an aggressive batting approach. Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Tim David, Rajat Patidar, Venkatesh Iyer and Phil Salt have given the defending champions the ability to score quickly throughout the innings. The availability of Salt remains an important question after he suffered a finger injury, although he has returned to training ahead of the final.

Captain Rajat Patidar has also brought stability to the team. His leadership style has been calm and measured, allowing both experienced stars and younger players to perform with confidence. RCB have combined that batting strength with one of the most effective bowling attacks in the tournament.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been one of Bengaluru’s most important players this season, taking 26 wickets in 15 matches. Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Dar and Krunal Pandya have also made major contributions. Speaking ahead of the final, Patidar said a strong bowling attack will be essential because the Ahmedabad pitch can produce high scoring matches that are difficult to defend.

Gujarat Titans cannot be underestimated, particularly at home. Shubman Gill has led the team with 722 runs at a strike rate of 163, while Sai Sudharsan has scored 710 runs at a strike rate of 159. Jos Buttler has added 507 runs and remains another dangerous presence near the top of the batting order.

The Titans will need their leading batters to deliver because RCB’s bowlers have consistently restricted opponents during the Powerplay. Gill, Sudharsan and Buttler carry much of the responsibility for Gujarat, especially because the middle order has not been as reliable throughout the tournament.

Gujarat also have a powerful bowling lineup capable of challenging Bengaluru’s aggressive batters. Kagiso Rabada leads the Purple Cap race with 28 wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Rashid Khan, Jason Holder and Prasidh Krishna provide additional options. Rabada and Siraj have been particularly effective at limiting scoring opportunities with disciplined bowling and a high number of dot balls.

Siraj’s fitness will be monitored closely after he required medical attention for a shoulder issue during Gujarat’s Qualifier 2 victory over Rajasthan Royals. He completed his four overs but appeared to be in discomfort. Gujarat will hope the problem does not prevent him from playing a full role in the final.

RCB will enter the match with an additional advantage after receiving several days of rest following their Qualifier 1 victory. Gujarat had to take the longer route to the final and will have less recovery time after playing Qualifier 2.

The defending champions may be the favourites, but the final remains difficult to predict. Bengaluru have the deeper batting lineup and a balanced bowling attack, while Gujarat have the home crowd, an in form top order and the tournament’s leading wicket taker. The result may depend on which team handles the pressure better when the IPL trophy is on the line.
