Four people were killed and at least 20 others injured early Tuesday after Iran launched a fresh wave of missiles into Israel, striking civilian areas in Beersheba just after the ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump was supposed to take effect. Sirens sounded repeatedly across southern Israel as Iranian missiles continued falling past 7 a.m. local time, intensifying fears that the ceasefire deal could collapse before fully materializing.
Emergency services rushed to multiple impact zones, with Soroka Hospital in Beersheba treating several of the wounded, including two individuals in moderate condition and six others with minor injuries. Many also suffered from anxiety and trauma-related symptoms. Magen David Adom (MDA) reported extensive damage to residential buildings, including a seven-story apartment complex where several people had been trapped under rubble. Three were rescued from the upper floors, while one person remains missing.
In addition to southern Israel, missile shrapnel struck areas in the northern Sharon region. A 15-year-old was reportedly injured near Hadera. Debris was also reported at Ben-Gurion Airport, though no injuries were confirmed there. Israel’s Fire and Rescue Authority issued an urgent warning to civilians to stay away from affected areas, stating that unauthorized arrivals were hampering emergency operations.
Iranian state media later reported that the country was now observing the ceasefire, claiming its missile barrage had ended shortly after 7:20 a.m. local time following four waves of launches. However, the continuation of attacks well past the scheduled truce window has thrown the agreement’s credibility into question.
First responders described harrowing scenes on the ground, with multiple buildings sustaining visible destruction. “We saw thick smoke rising from the crash site, and as we approached, we saw extensive damage in several buildings,” said senior MDA paramedic Shimrit Sela. “Outside one of the buildings, we found a man lying unconscious. Inside, we discovered two more unconscious victims. We’ve set up treatment stations and are examining residents as they exit the area.”
As Iran and Israel continue to exchange blows, the promised ceasefire appears fragile at best, with the human cost of this escalating conflict mounting by the hour.
