In a show of solidarity, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to strongly condemn the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region. President Pezeshkian expressed deep condolences for the victims, emphasizing that there can be “no justification for such acts of terror,” according to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The two leaders discussed the devastating assault at Baisaran meadow, where 26 civilians lost their lives in one of the Valley’s deadliest attacks since the 2019 Pulwama bombing. Both President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Modi agreed that the international community must remain united against terrorism, asserting that “all those who believe in humanity must stand together in the fight against terrorism.”
During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi conveyed the deep outrage and anguish felt across India following the attack. He reiterated the country’s determination to act firmly and decisively against those responsible, as well as the networks that support them. The message from New Delhi underlined India’s strong stance against terrorism and its resolve to prevent further attacks on its soil.
In addition to discussing the Pahalgam incident, Prime Minister Modi extended condolences to Iran for the recent tragedy at Bandar Abbas port, where a massive explosion and fire—linked to a shipment of missile propellant chemicals—killed five people and injured more than 700. Modi wished a speedy recovery to all those injured in the Iranian port disaster.
The phone call between the two leaders underscored not only the growing diplomatic engagement between India and Iran but also the shared commitment to combating global terrorism. As both nations continue to face their own security challenges, Saturday’s exchange reinforced the need for international cooperation in promoting peace and stability.
