Kangana Ranaut has spoken out in support of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after the actress faced online criticism over her recent appearances at the Cannes Film Festival. According to ETimes, Kangana reacted strongly to social media users who targeted Aishwarya’s looks and weight, saying women should not be expected to dress or appear in ways that satisfy public opinion.
In a post shared on Instagram Stories, Kangana defended Aishwarya and described fashion as a personal form of expression. She said style reflects a person’s own interpretation of life, attitude, and individuality. Kangana added that no woman owes anything to anyone and praised Aishwarya’s appearance, saying she looked great.
The actor and politician also challenged those criticizing Aishwarya to show what they could bring to the red carpet instead of tearing someone else down. Kangana made it clear that Aishwarya was not attending Cannes to please online critics and described her as glorious.
Kangana also addressed what she saw as ageism in the reaction to Aishwarya’s red carpet looks. She said that if people are not used to seeing older women at major international fashion events, they should start getting used to it. Her comments came as online discussions around Aishwarya’s Cannes appearances intensified, with some users comparing her looks to Alia Bhatt’s festival outings this year.
Aishwarya has been associated with Cannes for more than two decades and this year marked her 24th appearance at the prestigious film festival. Many fans defended her, pointing to her long standing presence on the global red carpet and her role in representing India at one of cinema’s biggest international events.
For one of her Cannes appearances, Aishwarya wore a custom blue gown by designer Amit Aggarwal, styled with diamond jewellery and a dramatic stole. She later appeared in a pastel pink draped outfit with floral details and cape sleeves. She also stepped out in a white pantsuit paired with a feather wrap stole, which received praise from several social media users.
Meanwhile, Kangana is preparing for the release of her upcoming film Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. Directed by Manoj Tapadia, the drama focuses on the courage shown by hospital staff during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and is scheduled to release on June 12.
