Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor’s relationship was once among the most talked-about chapters of Bollywood’s modern era. Years after their breakup, new insights continue to emerge about how deeply the split affected the actors involved. In a recent interview, veteran journalist Pooja Samant opened up about Katrina’s emotional state at the time and also reflected on how Ranbir’s earlier relationship with Deepika Padukone first began.
Speaking on Zahra Jani’s YouTube channel, Pooja revealed that Ranbir and Deepika initially connected through their make-up artists. Both were shooting in Mumbai’s Film City in 2007 — Ranbir on Saawariya and Deepika on Om Shanti Om. Their respective teams introduced the young actors to each other, exchanged numbers, and soon after, the two met for the first time at a coffee shop in the Grand Hyatt. Their romance grew quickly and publicly before ending in a very visible breakup, with Deepika later suggesting on Koffee With Karan that infidelity played a role.
Pooja then shared details about Katrina Kaif’s emotional turmoil following her own breakup with Ranbir years later. She recalled visiting YRF Studios to interview Katrina, only to find her overwhelmed with tears. According to Pooja, Katrina admitted that she had turned down several significant film offers because she believed her relationship with Ranbir was headed toward marriage. She reportedly felt she had “made a mistake” and blamed herself for the professional setbacks that followed.
As Pooja explained, Katrina had expected that marrying into the Kapoor family would mean stepping away from films, based on older traditions associated with the family at that time. Believing this future was certain, she chose to prioritize her relationship, only to feel devastated when things eventually fell apart. The journalist described Katrina as “madly in love” and deeply disappointed by how the situation unfolded.
Today, all three stars have moved forward in their personal lives. Ranbir Kapoor is married to Alia Bhatt, and they share a daughter named Raha. Deepika Padukone is married to Ranveer Singh, and the couple has a daughter named Dua. Katrina Kaif is now married to Vicky Kaushal, and they welcomed their baby boy in November 2025.
