Twist: This traditional North Indian dessert uses roasted fox nuts (makhana), which are nutrient-rich and crunchy, offering a unique alternative to regular rice or semolina-based kheer.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup makhana (fox nuts)
- 4 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 2 tablespoons ghee
- Chopped almonds and pistachios for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat ghee in a pan and roast makhana until crispy. Allow it to cool, then crush lightly.
- Bring milk to a boil, then simmer and reduce for about 15 minutes.
- Add crushed makhana, sugar, and cardamom powder. Cook until the kheer thickens.
- Garnish with chopped nuts and serve hot or chilled.
