Makhana Kheer Recipe: Nutritious Fox Nut Pudding for a Healthy Dessert

Twist: This traditional North Indian dessert uses roasted fox nuts (makhana), which are nutrient-rich and crunchy, offering a unique alternative to regular rice or semolina-based kheer.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup makhana (fox nuts)
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • Chopped almonds and pistachios for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat ghee in a pan and roast makhana until crispy. Allow it to cool, then crush lightly.
  2. Bring milk to a boil, then simmer and reduce for about 15 minutes.
  3. Add crushed makhana, sugar, and cardamom powder. Cook until the kheer thickens.
  4. Garnish with chopped nuts and serve hot or chilled.
