Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to outline additional federal measures aimed at confronting antisemitism and protecting Jewish communities as concerns grow over a sharp rise in reported incidents across Canada.

According to Global News and The Canadian Press, Carney is scheduled to deliver remarks in Toronto and provide further details about how the federal government plans to address anti Jewish hatred, intimidation and violence. The announcement comes as Jewish organizations continue to call for stronger action from political leaders, law enforcement agencies and public institutions.

The issue has become increasingly urgent following several troubling incidents. Toronto police recently responded to a report involving three visibly Jewish community members who were allegedly targeted with an imitation firearm. The incident added to broader concerns about the safety of Jewish Canadians in public spaces and the normalization of hateful behaviour.

According to B’nai Brith, antisemitic incidents in Canada surpassed 6,800 in 2025, the highest annual total recorded by the organization since it began tracking the issue in 1982. The organization has warned that anti Jewish hatred has become more visible and more deeply entrenched in public discourse since the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and the conflict that followed in Gaza.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre also addressed the issue while speaking outside the House of Commons. According to Global News, Poilievre criticized the federal government’s record and said he wants Carney to acknowledge the increase in hate crimes reported during the past decade of Liberal government.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs has also urged Ottawa to strengthen community security and confront the factors contributing to antisemitism. Noah Shack, a representative of the organization, said the federal government and law enforcement agencies must take stronger action against radicalization, the promotion of terrorism and extremist activity operating within Canada.

The announcement is expected to become an important test of how the federal government responds to growing concerns within Jewish communities. Readers can follow additional national developments through Weekly Voice and the latest Canadian news coverage in the Weekly Voice Canada section.
