As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, a senior official from the Ministry of External Affairs has expressed optimism that the conflict can still be contained. Speaking at a Public Affairs Forum of India event on Friday, Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the MEA, emphasized the importance of resilience and economic caution during turbulent geopolitical times.

According to Ravi, security, development, and economic growth are closely intertwined, and conflict inevitably disrupts industrial momentum. “In a conflict situation, the industry will naturally recoil,” he said, noting that businesses tend to avoid risk during uncertain times. While he refrained from directly naming any country, his comments came just hours after a major escalation along the India-Pakistan border.

Ravi added that while industries may pause their forward movement, “we should remain hopeful that the existing conflict does not escalate, and subsides in due course.” His remarks echoed growing concern across sectors about the broader economic impact of a potential military confrontation.

On Thursday night, Indian forces thwarted Pakistani attempts to strike military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and other key locations using missiles and drones. Explosions and air raid sirens were reported across several border areas including Akhnoor, Samba, Baramulla, and Kupwara, prompting an intensified aerial patrol by Indian forces.

Following the attempted strikes, the defence ministry affirmed that India remains fully prepared to protect its sovereignty and ensure the security of its citizens. While the situation remains tense, government officials continue to call for caution, unity, and optimism in the face of uncertainty.
