Mercedes-Benz is preparing one of the most ambitious product expansions in its history as it works to regain leadership in the competitive North American luxury vehicle market. Company leadership confirmed that roughly 40 new or updated models will arrive over the next three years as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position against rivals and reshape its future lineup across gasoline, hybrid, and electric segments.

The automaker is targeting annual U.S. sales of approximately 400,000 vehicles by the end of the decade. In recent years, BMW has held the top luxury sales position in the United States for seven consecutive years, followed closely by Lexus, with Mercedes-Benz currently ranking third. Executives say the upcoming wave of new vehicles is designed to close that gap and restore the brand’s leadership position in one of its most important global markets.

Much of the growth strategy focuses on core SUV models such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Mercedes-Benz GLS, which together represent a major portion of the company’s North American sales. Updated versions of these vehicles, along with a redesigned Mercedes-Benz S-Class scheduled for release later this year, are expected to play a central role in boosting market share.

Mercedes-Benz is also advancing a flexible powertrain strategy that includes traditional internal combustion engines supported by mild hybrid systems, plug in hybrid technology offering extended electric range, and fully electric vehicles built on dedicated platforms. Company leadership emphasized that offering multiple powertrain options remains essential as consumer demand for electric vehicles continues to evolve unevenly across global markets.

Technology is another key pillar of the company’s transformation. Future Mercedes-Benz vehicles will increasingly rely on software defined architecture supported by the new MB.OS operating system, which integrates artificial intelligence features powered by both OpenAI and Google platforms. The system enables continuous over the air updates and supports advanced driver assistance features, including Level 2 plus plus automation and limited Level 3 autonomous driving capability in approved conditions. At the same time, the company continues expanding its manufacturing presence in the United States, including upgrades to its Alabama production facilities, which are expected to support upcoming gasoline, hybrid, and electric vehicle production for the North American market.
