Meta has officially announced its next generation of smart glasses, teaming up with Oakley to launch a new line aimed at active users and athletes. The highlight of the lineup is the limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN, priced at $499 and available for preorder beginning July 11. Additional Oakley models featuring Meta’s smart tech will be released later this summer, starting at $399.
These smart glasses build on the success of Meta’s previous Ray-Ban line, offering key features like a front-facing camera, open-ear speakers, and integrated microphones—all housed within Oakley’s signature sporty frames. Once paired with a smartphone, the glasses allow users to stream music and podcasts, take calls, and interact with Meta AI. With the help of onboard sensors, Meta AI can also provide real-time visual assistance, such as identifying objects or translating text.
Designed with athletes in mind, the Oakley models boast IPX4 water resistance, double the battery life of the Meta Ray-Bans—up to 8 hours of active use—and a charging case that extends battery life to 48 hours. The onboard camera now supports 3K video recording, an upgrade from the 1080p limit on previous models.
The glasses will be available in five frame and lens combinations, including prescription-compatible options. Frame colors include black, brown smoke, clear, and warm grey, with lenses ranging from standard tints to Oakley’s premium PRIZM and transitions. The $499 limited-edition model features gold detailing and gold PRIZM lenses.
Meta’s expansion into sport-oriented wearables follows its multi-year partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of Oakley and Ray-Ban. With over 2 million Meta Ray-Bans sold, EssilorLuxottica aims to reach 10 million smart glasses sales annually by 2026.
“This is our first step into the performance category,” said Alex Himel, Meta’s head of wearables. “There’s more to come.”
