Mississauga is set to unveil new athletic amenities this spring at Mattamy Sports Park, adding a tournament-grade cricket pitch, a multi-purpose turf field, and a scenic five-kilometre trail to one of the city’s largest and fastest-growing recreational hubs.
City officials confirmed that the new facilities, located at Mattamy Sports Park beside the Churchill Meadows Community Centre, are on track to officially open on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. The latest additions mark the next phase of development at the expansive west-end complex, which spans 57 acres.
The new cricket pitch is designed to meet tournament standards, positioning Mississauga to host higher-level matches as the sport continues to grow across the Greater Toronto Area. Alongside it, the multi-purpose turf field will accommodate field hockey and soccer, with both spaces equipped with lighting to support evening play. A five-kilometre multi-use trail circling the sports fields will also debut in mid-April, offering walkers, runners, and cyclists a dedicated route around the complex.
Originally opened in October 2021 as part of the Churchill Meadows Community Centre development, Mattamy Sports Park already features a wide range of amenities. These include basketball courts, outdoor fitness stations, a playground, skateboard area, spray pad, leash-free dog park, and a lit sports field, making it a year-round destination for residents of all ages.
The park’s second development phase also introduced a domed tennis and pickleball facility in November 2024. Operated in partnership with Premier Racquet Clubs and Tennis Canada, the $4.3 million indoor complex offers four courts and allows for year-round play. Notably, it is the first facility of its kind in Mississauga that is open to all residents rather than limited to private club members.
With the addition of the cricket pitch and multi-sport field, city officials say the sports park is nearing completion as a premier destination capable of hosting everything from casual community games to larger competitive tournaments. The April 18 grand opening will formally mark another milestone in Mississauga’s continued investment in recreational infrastructure.
