More than 20,800 vehicles across Canada have been recalled in recent weeks after several major automakers identified safety related defects that could increase the risk of crashes, fires, or injuries. The recalls affect a range of popular models from Hyundai, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Kia, Toyota, Ford, and BMW. Owners of affected vehicles are being urged to watch for official notices and arrange repairs as soon as possible.

Hyundai is recalling 9,669 Tucson SUVs from the 2022 to 2024 model years due to a trailer wiring harness defect. The company warned that water intrusion could cause the harness to fail or short circuit, potentially disabling brake or trailer lights and increasing the risk of crashes or fires. The issue affects vehicles equipped with a Hyundai Genuine accessory trailer wiring harness installed before delivery or sold as a dealer accessory. Hyundai said affected owners will be notified by mail.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has issued a recall for 4,115 Ram trucks, including 2025 model year Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 vehicles, as well as certain chassis cab models. A software issue could cause the occupant restraint controller to shut down while driving, disabling airbags, seat belt pretensioners, and electronic stability control. Warning lights for airbags, ABS, and seat belts may also illuminate. Owners will be instructed to visit a dealership for a software update.

Kia is recalling 3,254 Sportage vehicles from the 2023 to 2025 model years due to a software problem affecting the tow hitch harness control module. In some cases, the defect could cause the instrument cluster to reboot while driving, temporarily removing access to critical information such as speed and warning alerts. The recall applies only to vehicles equipped with a 4.2 inch display and a Genuine Kia tow hitch harness. Kia said dealerships will replace the control module if needed.

Toyota has recalled 2,411 hybrid vehicles, including 2025 and 2026 Camry Hybrid models and the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid. The company said a bolt in the hybrid inverter assembly may not have been tightened correctly during assembly, potentially leading to reduced power, loss of drive, or an electrical short circuit that could increase fire risk. Toyota will notify affected owners and perform inspections and repairs.

Ford has announced several recalls covering nearly 1,300 vehicles in total. One recall affects 683 Super Duty trucks from the 2026 model year due to a rear axle shaft defect that could cause a loss of power or allow the vehicle to roll away if parked without the brake applied. Additional recalls include issues with instrument panel components in 2025 Maverick pickups, improperly secured rear seat belts in certain 2025 and 2026 Escape and Lincoln Corsair vehicles, and a follow up recall involving earlier repairs on select 2019 Expedition and 2019 to 2020 Mustang models related to park warning alerts.

BMW is recalling 101 older vehicles from the 2014 model year, including 2 Series, 3 Series, and 4 Series models, due to a defect in side curtain airbag inflators. The company warned that the inflators could rupture, sending metal fragments toward occupants or preventing the airbags from deploying properly in a crash. This recall expands on a previous BMW airbag campaign earlier in the year.

Drivers can check whether their vehicle is affected by visiting the manufacturer’s website or Transport Canada’s recall database, and should schedule repairs promptly, as all recall related fixes are performed at no cost to owners.
