Every year, during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community are honoured.
Public safety is integral to the quality of life in our communities, and this week-long event is a time to recognize, celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication and bring greater awareness of 9-1-1 best practices.
“The respect I have for our dedicated and professional communicators working with Peel Regional Police is immeasurable. You speak with people on their worst days and nights while communicating vital information to our officers. Thank you for everything you do; it matters and makes a difference.” said Chief Nishan Duraiappah.
Throughout the week of April 10-16, 2022, Peel Regional Police will feature team members from our Communications Services that keep our communities safe every day. Get to know the people who are your first point of contact during an emergency and the heroes behind the headsets.
“We here at Peel Regional Police are so grateful to have resilient, compassionate and dedicated Communication professionals working in our 911 centre. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, you are the public’s first emergency personnel they connect with during a crisis. Your quick decision making, communication, and technological skills are just some of the essential qualities that keep our communities safer.” said Anthony Odoardi, Deputy Chief of Innovation and Technology.
We are engaging in an education campaign to continue to teach effective practices on the use of 9-1-1 and our non-emergency line, such as:
- When to call 9-1-1
- How to avoid accidental 9-1-1 calls
- What to do if you call 9-1-1 by mistake (Please don’t hang up)
- Mental Health supports in Peel (Toll free 1-888-811-2222)
- Amber Alert education and more
