Windsor Assembly Plant to Gain New Product Line, Boosting Local Economy
According to Greg Layson of Automotive News Canada, the Windsor Assembly Plant is preparing to take on production of a new vehicle, the Stellantis Stealth, starting in late 2026 or early 2027. The Stealth will replace the Dodge Durango, which is currently manufactured in Michigan. This new addition will bring the total number of vehicles produced at the Windsor plant to four, including the Charger, the Stealth, the Chrysler minivan, and an unnamed Chrysler product.
The plant’s expansion into producing multiple vehicle types, including electric, hybrid, and internal combustion engine vehicles, is expected to result in the return of three full shifts by 2027. This move comes as a positive economic boost for the Windsor area.
Stellantis has not yet confirmed the new product lineup, and labor negotiations are ongoing, with the United Auto Workers’ union filing complaints over the Durango’s move. However, Layson’s sources indicate the Windsor plant’s growing versatility makes it a key site for Stellantis’ future production plans.
