Nine people have been arrested following an investigation into an alleged plot to carry out attacks in Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of India. According to NDTV, officials said the suspects are believed to have links to Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence agency and fugitive underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim.
The Delhi Police Special Cell said the arrested individuals include residents of Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab, along with some foreign nationals. Police also recovered weapons and a large quantity of ammunition during the operation. The allegations have not yet been tested in court.
According to NDTV, investigators believe the group may have been preparing to target important infrastructure and security personnel. Sources speaking to NDTV said locations under consideration allegedly included airports, railway stations, power plants and nuclear facilities.
Officials said the suspected module had been under surveillance before the arrests were made. Investigators are now examining possible cross border connections, sources of funding and the role of overseas handlers who may have directed the alleged activities.
The arrests come as security agencies remain on heightened alert in Delhi. Earlier intelligence inputs reportedly raised concerns about potential attempts to target prominent offices and crowded public locations. District police units have been instructed to coordinate closely with intelligence agencies and central paramilitary forces.
The latest investigation follows a deadly vehicle borne explosive attack near Delhi’s Red Fort last year that killed 15 people and injured more than a dozen others. Authorities had linked that case to a separate alleged terror module associated with Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind, which officials have described as an Al Qaeda affiliated group.
Further details about the latest arrests are expected as the Delhi Police investigation continues. Updates on major developments affecting India and the South Asian community can be found on Weekly Voice.
