Toronto: The Nair Social Society of Canada (NSS) organized a virtual New Year’s program on January 2 with a variety entertainment program.
Regaling the participants were young dancers Devananda Rayaroth who presented a Bharatanatyam item and Nandika who enchanted with a Mohiniattam recital. The dances were choreographed by Gayatridevei Maruthur of the Nupura School of Music and Dance.
Songs were sung by Suresh Nair, Dev, and Ashwin. Raghu Manjapra delighted the audience with a sit-down monologue. Vijayalakshmi Jayant Kumar logged in from Mumbai to sing a Hindi song.
A trivia quiz, compered by Abhishek Menon was one of the popular items during the program, with prizes of $25 gift vouchers for the winners. Quiz winners were Meera, Rejeesh and Aswati.
All young performers – Nandita, Devananda, Niranjana Avantika, Shreya Sharanya, Abhishek, Anushka, and Ashwin were also given $25 e-vouchers, courtesy of Lata Menon from Menon Law Offices of Toronto.
The program was also to introduce NSS families to each other and new immigrant/members settling in Canada from Kerala.
NSS member Roy Pillai, who works as a Compliance Officer with the Ontario Ministry of Consumer Affairs, gave an interesting presentation on ‘Protect Your Consumer Rights and Know Your Workplace Rights’.
The program ended with an ‘Antakshari’ involving both Malayalam and Hindi songs. The Zoom event was coordinated by NSS Canada Secretary Jayesh Menon.
