A 32-year-old Ontario man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to leave Canada to join a terrorist organization, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Due to a court-ordered publication ban, authorities have not released the suspect’s name or disclosed which group he was allegedly trying to join.

The RCMP said the arrest follows the initiation of a terrorism peace bond application process, authorized by both the director of public prosecutions and the deputy attorney general of Canada on April 19. The suspect appeared in a Brampton court on April 20 and remains in custody pending further court proceedings. Police indicated that a future court date will be scheduled.

The investigation was led by the RCMP’s Ontario Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), with assistance from Peel Regional Police, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, and the Pacific Region INSET. The collaboration between multiple agencies was critical in bringing the case forward, officials said.

In a statement, the RCMP emphasized that threats to Canada’s national security remain a top priority. Although details about the suspect’s alleged activities are limited, the case highlights ongoing concerns around Canadians seeking to participate in terrorist activities abroad.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the country against national security threats and encouraged the public to remain vigilant. The investigation remains active as the legal process moves forward.
