In a fresh escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistani government has reportedly banned the online streaming of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) across all local digital platforms. The decision, according to various Pakistani media outlets, was enforced late Friday night and impacts websites and mobile apps that were previously airing IPL matches in the country.
This move comes in direct response to India’s earlier decision to suspend the broadcast of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. The Indian action followed the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of over 25 Indian tourists. In the immediate aftermath, FanCode, the official Indian streaming partner for PSL, announced it would cease coverage of the tournament with immediate effect.
The fallout extended beyond streaming rights. Indian authorities also reportedly blocked several social media accounts belonging to high-profile Pakistani cricketers, including Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi, intensifying the digital clampdown in response to the attack.
With both countries using high-profile cricket tournaments as diplomatic leverage, this tit-for-tat suspension signals a deepening rift between the two neighbors, where sport and geopolitics continue to collide.
