A 25-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) vehicle in Bala, Ontario, early on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Muskoka Road 169, involving an unmarked OPP vehicle.
The pedestrian was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The officer driving the cruiser was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate to investigate the incident, assigning three investigators, three forensic specialists, and a collision reconstruction expert to the case. Muskoka Road 169 was temporarily closed for the investigation but has since reopened. Victim services have been engaged to support the deceased’s family, and resources are in place for the officer involved.
