Arrest Made in Attempted Murder Investigation

Region of Peel   – Investigators from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested and charged a male from Toronto in connection to a shooting incident that took place in Brampton.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, an armed suspect occupying a stolen vehicle shot the victim multiple times while he was seated in his vehicle in the area of Inder Heights Drive and Mayfield Road in Brampton. The victim was transported to a trauma centre where he was treated for his life altering injuries and is in stable condition. Investigators believe that this incident is a case of mistaken identity.

As a result of the extensive investigation, the suspect was identified as Hakeem Thomas, a 22-year-old male from Toronto. On Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, Hakeem was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

Possession Property Obtained by Crime

Attempted Murder using Firearm

Discharge Firearm with Intent

Possession of a loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm

Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was Firearm

Possession of Firearm, etc. Contrary to Order (X 2)

Hakeem was held pending a lengthy bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. He is also a subject of an ongoing Toronto Police investigation.
