Region of Peel – Peel Regional Police has introduced the service’s first-ever electric patrol vehicle, a groundbreaking addition to its automotive fleet and the next step in electric vehicle expansion.
The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer Electric Police Pursuit Vehicle was deployed on April 24, 2025, furthering the service’s commitment to sustainability following the introduction of the Ford Mustang Mach-SR Electric Vehicle in 2022.
The Chevrolet Blazer is engineered to fulfill all the requirements of a traditional internal combustion engine-powered police vehicle, now on an advanced electric platform with an impressive range of over 400 kilometers. Typically, an officer’s shift covers around 100 kilometers.
This implementation will spearhead a pilot project aimed at evaluating the practicality of electric vehicles for daily police patrols, such as assessing battery performance during active duty and during the winter months. 23 Division, a cutting-edge police facility currently under construction in Brampton, will be equipped with the necessary infrastructure to support a significant electric vehicle fleet upon its completion in 2027.
In 2020, Peel Regional Police became one of the first police services in Canada to introduce fully marked hybrid vehicles for patrol. To date, the fleet includes 192 hybrid vehicles, with 133 dedicated to patrol duties. Additionally, there are five electric vehicles in use, comprising of four non-patrol and one patrol vehicle, including the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer.
The Region of Peel has comitted to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent below 2010 levels by 2030. Between 2022 and 2023, Peel Regional Police achieved a 1.2 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for facilities and fleet. Notably, emissions from its fleet in 2023 were approximately 11 per cent lower than the Region’s 2010 baseline.
