Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt wishes to the people of India on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, emphasizing the enduring relevance of Lord Buddha’s teachings in promoting peace and compassion across the world. In his message, PM Modi noted that Lord Buddha’s life, marked by sacrifice and penance, remains a guiding light for humanity, fostering values of truth, harmony, and equality. The Prime Minister took to social media platform X to share his greetings and remind citizens of the significance of Buddha’s messages in today’s world.
Buddha Purnima, also referred to as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti, is a sacred day for Buddhists globally, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha. Observed on the full moon of the Vaisakh month in the Hindu calendar, the day is traditionally dedicated to reflection, meditation, and spreading the message of peace and spiritual awakening.
Several other national leaders also conveyed their greetings. Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted his wishes on social media, highlighting Buddha’s message of unity, compassion, and non-violence as the confluence of noble thoughts, words, and actions. He expressed his prayers for happiness and peace for all on this auspicious day.
Union Minister JP Nadda echoed similar sentiments, extending his warm wishes to the citizens and underlining Lord Buddha’s contribution to human society through his teachings of compassion, non-violence, and selfless service. Nadda added that Buddha’s legacy would continue to inspire generations in the journey of spiritual awakening and service to others.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to Lord Buddha, describing him as a symbol of peace, wisdom, and compassion. Singh remarked that the Buddha’s timeless lessons serve as a beacon, guiding humanity toward harmony, righteousness, and self-realisation.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the people of the state and the country, urging everyone to embrace Lord Buddha’s principles of meditation, compassion, and peaceful coexistence. He called upon citizens to pledge their efforts towards building a harmonious and peaceful society, taking inspiration from the life and teachings of Lord Buddha.
